History and Mysteries

History's Greatest Mystery

Around the time of the first colonies to ever be discovered, there was a colony called Roanoke. A man named John had discovered this island once before. The attempt was unsuccessful do to a conflict they had with a surrounding Native tribe. Their second attempt was successful or at least they thought. John had decided to sail back to his home country to grab some supplies for those who were living on this island. He had arrived in midst of war. The Queen had stopped all boats, cargos and vessel from leaving due to be used for the war. John was unable to leave for the next three years. Once he arrived back to the colony of Roanoke, the people he left behind were no where to be seen. It was as if they vanished into thin air. Conspiracies have been developed by historians and people as to where the colonist went. This still remain a mystery to this day.

With this type of podcast it is educational, but the twist behind it can be fun for the students to get a break from your typical lectures. With this podcast, teachers can create a fun little classroom discussion when discussing the colonies. The class can listen to this podcast and the conspiracies for the class period. After the podcast is finished, the class can all discuss what they believed has happened to the colony as a fun little activity.
